Is your environment impacting your mental health?

How many of you in your 20s have realized that your depression and sadness didn’t actually start from within?

Let’s try a little activity to help make this clearer:

Imagine you’re in your 20s—full of energy, joy, and optimism. You’re that person who always lights up the room, shares uplifting ideas, and supports everyone around you.

Then one day, you meet someone you’d like to become friends with. At first, everything seems fine. But after a few weeks, something starts to feel off. You begin to feel drained. Your usual spark is gone. The motivation and joy you used to carry with you just aren’t there anymore.

You’ve always been the one cheering others on when they’re down. But now that you’re the one feeling lost, there’s no one there to lift you up.

What’s happening?

Sometimes, we don't realize how much our environment impacts us. When you're constantly surrounded by negativity, pessimism, or people who only take your energy without giving anything back—it wears you down. Even the most positive, vibrant person can start to fade in that kind of atmosphere.

The truth is: We are deeply influenced by what we’re around most often. And even the strongest, most optimistic souls can begin to feel heavy if they’re constantly carrying the emotional weight of others.

So if you’re feeling this way, you’re not alone. And it might not be “just you.” Sometimes, it’s your environment that needs changing—not who you are.

Emotions can be hard to understand, whether you're in your 20s or your 50s.

But you don’t have to navigate them alone.

At MilaCom, we help people make sense of their emotions, leading to healthier behavior and stronger relationships—both within families and in everyday life.
